This iconic 1929 Art Deco lithograph was originally commissioned to promote the luxury Swiss resort of St. Moritz as an ideal summer getaway, attempting to broaden its appeal beyond winter sports.
The composition relies on a vibrant, warm color palette dominated by fiery oranges, deep reds, and soft pinks. In the foreground, a highly stylized, crimson silhouette of a seated woman rests on a rocky outcrop. She is framed by a minimalist, structural Art Deco tree trunk on the left. Her gaze leads the viewer into the expansive valley below, overlooking the serene waters of Lake St. Moritz. In the background, majestic peaks of the Engadine mountains are illuminated by a radiant, bursting golden sunrise. The bottom third features elegant, flowing Art Deco typography reading "Summer at St. Moritz" and "Engadine Switzerland."
